You
You make him a man
You help him build his first model car
You help him hammer that first nail
You
You teach him bravery
You let him take his first swim
You tell him to climb the mountain
You
You love him unconditionally
You hold his hand when crossing a street
You understand when his viewpoints differ
You
You show courage
You take the first step into a cold pool
You swim to him when he’s stranded at sea
You
You demonstrate contentment
You tell him to appreciate his life, not his job
You teach him to accept things as they are
You
You illustrate protection
You tell him to be safe when traveling
You protect him with your arm when you brake suddenly
You
You personify dedication
You sweat blood, day in and day out, for him to succeed
You strive with everything you’ve got so he can live pleasantly
You
You bestow wisdom
You tell him how interact with people in all walks of life
You tell him to speak well, or not speak at all
You
You emit pride
You smile at his achievements
You boast to your friends about what he’s done
… You are what makes a son a man, you are a father, and you are the greatest story never told

Only in the interests of fairness I ask, when you write of sons…”And what of daughters?”

Oh i didn’t mean for it to be unfair – i just wanted to capture the father-son relationship, not take away anything from the daughter relationship. I think i touched on the father-daughter relationship in “woman” though :p.
If i can think of a sequel to the greatest story never told, then i’ll write it up – promise! cross my heart!
